Board of Directors

Robert Binyon, Board Chairman

An experienced emerging markets investment manager, Robert joined Morgan Grenfell in 1972, rising to a position of Managing Director based in Tokyo and with responsibility for the Group’s operations in the Asia Pacific Region from 1986 to 1991. After a stint in London as Chief Executive and Managing Director for Tokai Bank Europe, he joined the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) in 1994 to run the Financial Markets Department with responsibility for CDC’s SME-focused funds. Robert pioneered CDC’s emerging markets funds, which later became the Aureos group of funds. In 2000, he returned to Asia as Managing Director of CDC’s Asia Pacific Portfolio working from his Bangkok office. Following his resignation from CDC in 2003, he has focused on private equity management in Asia. He is Board Chairman or a non-executive Director of a number of funds (including the Aureos funds in Asia) and SME company boards, all focused in the Asia Pacific region and mostly through private equity investments. He has been involved in fund raising from leading institutional investors in the Asia Pacific region over the past 20 years. Robert received an MA in Modern History from Christ Church, Oxford.

Chris J. Christopher

Chris is a retired Hewlett Packard Company executive with over 40 years of experience in product marketing, R&D, supply chain and management positions including his last postion as Senior VP and General Manager of an $18B portfolio consisting of Desktop PCs, Workstations, Displays, Client Virtualization and Point-of-Sale systems. His formal training, his engagements in different parts of the company, his multi-national exposure and his various leadership and management positions have been instrumental in building his rich repertoire of skills and expertise. Chris currently serves on the Board of Directors of two additional companies, one public and one privately held. He is also involved with the Innosphere Incubator as a business coach of state-up companies. Chris has both a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MS in Electrical Engineering and Computers from Colorado State University and an Executive MBA from INSEAD School of Business, France. He also has taken numerous HP internal and external courses in leadership and business management.

Wanda Kim

Wanda worked for UBS Investment Bank from 1997-2011 where she held a variety of positions in the Zurich and London offices. In her role as Managing Director and Head of the Environmental Advisory Group, she created a new team in the investment bank with global responsibility to manage environmental risks and to pursue environmental business opportunities. She also headed the Equity Corporate Finance Team, a global group responsible for the execution of initial public offerings and capital raisings. Prior to joining UBS, Wanda was a securities lawyer with Shearman & Sterling, working in New York, London and Dusseldorf. She is currently a member of the Advisory Committee of Conservation Strategy Fund, a California- and Brazil-based organisation that uses economics to develop solutions for the conservation of natural ecosystems. She is also a member of the Development Council of Plymouth Marine Laboratory, a leading marine research center based in the UK, where her focus has been on the commercialisation of research applications. Recently, Wanda has joined the Advisory Group of InFrontier, a UK-based growth capital investor focusing on businesses in post conflict zones. Wanda received an AB cum laude from Harvard University and a JD from Columbia University.

Robert McG. Lilley

Rob’s varied career has taken him far and wide. He was Del Monte Corporation’s Legislative Affairs Director in Sacramento, California; a Director of the First Earth Day in 1970 in Washington D.C.; and Managing Director of a leading wine company in London, England. He spent some 25 years in senior management positions with US based biotech/healthcare companies. He was Senior Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing for the Digene Corporation from 1997-2008, responsible for $250m in annual sales in 25 countries. He has served on the Board of Trustees of Stanford University’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, and is on the Board of Directors of The Global Footprint Network , an NGO based in Geneva, Switzerland. A lead investor in TerraGlobal Capital, LLC in San Francisco , Rob is currently Chairman of the Board of Immunexpress, Inc. of Seattle, Washington, a molecular diagnostics company. A graduate of Yale University, he divides his time between homes in London, England, Sonoma, California, and Chamonix, France.

Robert Wardrop

Bob has more than 30 years of experience in the financing of small and medium sized businesses as both an entrepreneur and investor in Europe, North America and Asia. He is currently an investor, director and advisor to growth companies in the technology and health care sectors, including Asia Broadcast Satellite in Hong Kong, Clarity Health in Seattle, Washington, and Playence in Innsbruck, Austria. Bob is actively involved in the research and teaching of the financing of small and medium-sized businesses finance at the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, UK, and is a Visiting Lecturer at Imperial College Business School in London. He is currently a member of the Global Advisory Board for the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and the Advisory Board for Queen’s University School of Business in Canada. From 2000 to 2009 he was Managing Director of Anschutz Investments Ltd., the unit of the Anschutz Corporation responsible for European investments. The Anschutz Corporation is one of the largest privately-owned companies in the United States, and its European investment activity included debt and equity investments in entertainment, sports and venture capital investments in telecommunications and media. Bob holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, an MSc from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University (Canada).

Robert McG. Lilley | Interim Managing Director

David B. Williams | President, Clean Engines Philippines, Inc.

David lived and worked in Asia for 13 years, including five years in Manila, where he managed operations that introduced two-stroke retrofit technology to the Philippines, working for Envirofit, a Colorado-based NGO. During his previous eight years in Vietnam, he founded and operated the region’s first factory producing safety helmets for motorcycle drivers. Earlier, David spent five years working on major IT systems for the US Embassy and international hotel chains. He currently oversees marketing and sales of CEI’s products in the Philippines, working from CEI’s subsidiary headquarters in Manila.

Dr. Horizon Gitano-Briggs | Chief Technology Officer

Horizon is an expert in small engines technologies. His company, Focus Applied Technologies, is the prime contractor for development of CEI’s retrofit technology. Since receiving his Ph.D. from Colorado State University, under Dr. Bryan Willson, Director of the Engines and Energy Conversion Laboratory at Powerhouse Energy Institute, Horizon has worked almost exclusively on new and improved small-vehicle engine retrofit technologies. He is also founder and director of the University of Sciences Malaysia Engines Lab. Horizon has a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University, an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at San Diego and a B.S. in Engineering Physics from the Colorado School of Mines.
